Happy 2025 from CERN

Body

CERN wishes you a happy 2025 as we look forward to a year of world-class research, uniting people from all over the world to push the frontiers of science and technology for the benefit of all.

Welcome to the Quantum Year. The United Nations has declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, celebrating a century of research and innovation in the field.

Quantum physics describes nature’s behaviour at the smallest scales, something that CERN explores on a daily basis. CERN has revealed and studied the subtle effects of quantum theory throughout its history, most recently observing quantum entanglement at the highest energy yet at the Large Hadron Collider, and is also sharing its enabling technologies to accelerate the development of next-generation quantum innovations. Initiatives such as CERN’s Quantum Technology Initiative and the Open Quantum Institute are contributing to cutting-edge research and fostering international collaboration in quantum technologies.

The International Quantum Year will kick off with an inaugural event at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in February 2025, followed by global initiatives and events that explore and engage with quantum science. At CERN, the 2025 public event season will be dedicated to this theme, featuring activities at CERN Science Gateway, such as talks, performances, a film festival and more. The full programme will soon be available at visit.cern/events.
